RELIGION In Unit 3, we will continue to learn about the Patriarchs of God’s chosen people. Chapter 10 introduces us to Moses and the story of his life and the Exodus. We will learn how the Israelites were guided to a deeper understanding of God, as he leads them to the Promised Land. The Ten Commandments will be revisited and we will discuss how they are applied to our lives. We will take time to discuss Lent and participate in Stations of the Cross. During Lent, the students will also participate in the sacrament of Reconciliation for the second time this school year. More details will follow. |

ENGLISH We are presently studying pronouns. We have discussed personal pronoun, subject and object pronouns and possessive pronouns. We hope to finish this chapter by the end of the month. Integrated throughout the curriculum, there continues to be opportunities for students to improve their writing skills. Through book reports, projects, poetry, narratives, interviews and extended answers, students are practicing writing daily. Simple Solutions English is greatly helping to refresh and review necessary topics in language arts. I can really see the growth in what the students know from year to year. Keep up the good work! |

MATH We are just finishing up the Base, Rate and Percentage chapter. Next we will work with Consumer Math. This is a very practical and fun unit. We will be learning about tax, discounts, interest, commission and budgeting. We will be learning how to use calculators effectively as a learning tool as well. Simple Solutions is going great! We are now taking the quizzes that do not include the exact problems from the lessons. This requires some studying on Thursday evenings of the problems that were missed during the week. Please spend some time studying!! |
SOCIAL STUDIES Currently, we are exploring ancient Egypt. This is always one of the most interesting chapters to study. We will be having a test on Thursday, February 12. I will also be assigning an independent study project on the Egyptian topic of their choice. This will give students the opportunity to explore a topic of interest more thoroughly. Projects will be due on Tuesday, March 3. Next we will visit other countries of Africa. |
