(updated 5-13-10)
The following is the letter to the editor that I sent to the Sun Messenger
to thank them for the article about our youth in the Drama Club and to
clarify their headline:

Letter to the Editor:
Thank you for the wonderful article concerning
our children’s production of the Music Man.
We are very proud of the work that they have done.
It was a wonderful show.
We are also very thankful to Mr. Welo, Mr. Krol, the many
other adults who worked so hard with the children and to our friends
at Ganley who helped to make it all possible.
It’s possible though, that your readers may
think, based on the headline, that this was the last show or that
our school is closing.
Neither is true. As they
say in theatre, the show must go on…and so it shall.
We look forward to a bright future with our neighbors at St.
Margaret Mary when we emerge as the new parish of Sacred Heart of
Jesus. Our school will
continue as Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy and we will continue to
offer our young people the opportunity of being part of such a
dynamic tradition in our drama club.
Our school is a vital part of our community and will continue
to offer the finest in Catholic Education.
I invite your readers to come and see the great things that
are happening here.
Sincerely,
Fr. Dave R. Ireland,
Pastor

NEWS FROM THE ST. GREGORY THE GREAT DRAMA CLUB
(10-12-09)
The purpose of St. Gregory the Great Drama Club (SGDC) shall be to promote
the theater arts as an essential educational opportunity for students to
develop interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills and to build
community within the school, parish, City of South Euclid and other
surrounding municipalities through the annual production of a live theater
performance. We ardently pursue these objectives grounded in our belief and
commitment to the Roman Catholic faith.
The SGDC, with its' reputation for putting on high quality theatrical
productions, continues to be a treasured tradition within our parish,
school, and neighboring communities. In order to maintain and strengthen
this in tradition, an advisory board was formed to provide on-going and
consistent leadership and operational supervision and management for the
SGDC. The SGDC Board members for 2009-2010 are:
President: Melissa Wenzler
Vice-President: Mark Geyman
Treasurer: Joe Filippo
Secretary: Mary Ann Hanicak
At-Large Members: Patti Redding, Carol Sisson, Brian Windbigler
The SGDC Board has set two goals for this year. The first is to improve the
quantity and the quality of our fundraising efforts to provide solid,
financial stability to the SGDC. The second is to increase the number of
SGDC members involved in the productions by diversifying the volunteer pool
to engage families and parishioners regardless of their affiliation with a
seventh or eighth grade student. Our hope is to open up the play to all
families and parishioners who have time and talents to share.
There will be many opportunities to get involved and use your talents to
make this drama season a rousing success. Please watch the school newsletter
and website for more details regarding future meetings and
membership/volunteer opportunities. In the meantime, feel free to contact
any of the SGDC Board members to ask questions or get involved right away.
