The 8th Grade Boys B team WON the City Championship this weekend, completing
an undefeated season against
Division 3 teams!
Again, congrats to the 8th Grade "B" Boys Basketball team for a fine season!!!
St. Greg's won a defensive struggle, 19-18, on a go-ahead basket with under one minute remaining against a disciplined and classy St. Bernadette team. St. Greg's led 10-4 after one quarter, but St. Bernadette’s defensive adjustments and clock management (along with some tough breaks for St. Greg's) held the potent Jaguar attack to its lowest point total of the season. St. Bernadette chipped away and seized its only lead of the game on a 3-point shot with about one minute to play, but Jaguar Pride would not be denied in pursuit of a perfect season in Division 3 competition. St. Greg's regained the lead on a strong baseline move by Kevin Greisl off a nifty pass from Jake Hurley, sending the throng of St. Greg's fans into a frenzy. St. Greg's secured victory with a defensive stand despite a valiant last-second effort by St. Bernadette. The inside game was paced by Jared Austhof, Matt Koziol, and D’Mante Tolliver along with Greisl and Hurley. These five played solid defense, dominated on the boards, and contested every shot. The backcourt rotation of Anthony Krueger and “The Four Lefties” – Taylor Branisel, Carrington Glenn, Mike Leone, and Mike Petrarca – was also equal to the task. They attacked the basket relentlessly, hustled for loose balls, and provided key buckets, steals, and defensive traps throughout the game. Coaches Ray Lawson and Ron Branisel pushed the right buttons and preached TEAM concepts from day one of the season, and their efforts were fittingly rewarded with a tremendous TEAM win. Congratulations!

LET'S GO JAGUARS!!!
We will have a City championship pre-game tailgate and decoration of the bus and cars this coming Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. until the bus departs at 9:45 a.m. Please park in the area closest to the Credit Union. We will then caravan over to Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea. Game time is 12:00 Noon. - Jaguars vs. Our Lady of Angels. We go into the game at 9-0, same as O.L.A. This could be the 1st team in St. Greg's history to win 10 games in one season. We have not been to the championship game since 1999. That team was part of the teams that won 30 straight games - the most in CYO history. It's time to bring the trophy back to the East side!!!
The
8th grade last hit for the team is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11th at 4:30PM.
All are welcome. Grade 4-7 boys on the football teams come in your football
jersey. Boys in grades 4-7 please bring your football equipment and uniform
to turn in at this time.
Athletic News: If you missed basketball sign-ups you can send in your name, address, phone number, birthdates, and a $50.00 deposit (SGAC) in an envelope marked Athletic club. The deadline is Friday, October 28th. If you did not play a fall sport you will need a physical form. This form will be due by the first practice (Nov. 7th).
Basketball T-Shirts: Again this year we are giving all St. Greg’s basketball players an opportunity to order a “warm up” long-sleeved t-shirt (strictly optional). This t-shirt is white with blue/gold logo on the front and the player’s last name on the back. All orders must be placed by Friday, November 4th.
Athletic Club: Basketball uniform pick-up/Volleyball uniform collection will be held on Thursday, November 17th from 6-9:00PM in the PFC (second floor). A $50.00 uniform deposit is required. Please make checks payable to SGAC. You may postdate your checks to February 2006. Thank you!
